Save the Salmon, Vibrate a Pile
If you want to do your best to protect our salmon or other marine life while driving pile, why not choose a vibratory hammer to drive that next underwater pile? With such an emphasis on the environment these days, a recent definitive study commissioned last year by Caltrans on the issue of the effects of pile driving on marine life lists vibrating pile as the best pile driving method to protect Sea Life. In section 2.5 titled: Common Underwater Sound Reduction Measures, vibration of pile is listed as a preferred method to reduce sound in underwater pile driving compared to other pile driving methods. Evidence suggests it is the safest method for wildlife and the only method not to reach the dangerous 183db level. Attached is the entire report which is a must read for all you contractors driving underwater pile. There is also a ton of material about how to best handle underwater noise issues when driving any kind of pile with most types of hammers.
Misener Marine Drives them Home!
Misener Marine has landed a very nice marine project for a private owner here in Norfolk VA. Misener knew there were a lot of pile driving equipment suppliers in the “Tidewater” area, but they made just 1 phone call to APE Mid-Atlantic in Virginia Beach VA. This job consisted of driving a 300′ of “Combi-Wall” a combination of steel pipe piles & steel sheet piles and 30″ square concrete piles under all of the docks & piers as well as 24″ square concrete piles upland for the combi-wall tie back system. They used APE D62 diesel impact hammers D46 diesel impact hammers, J&M Model 220 hydraulic impact hammers and APE Model 300 vibratory hammers. All has gone very well so far. Overseeing the job is Larry Thornton Operations manager, Johnny Eskins Construction manager and Tim Linden Project manager. Misener Marine knows that all of the APE employees are true experts in the piledriving field, all of them have worked in this business all of their lives. Ask your current pile equipment supplier what they were doing a few years ago. If they were selling forklifts or building kitchen cabinets why are you dealing with them ? APE wishes Misener a safe & productive job. Call your nearest APE branch to see how much they can do for your job…………..GO APE!
APE Southeast Moves Into a New Facility
The APE southeastern operation has moved to its new facility at Mulberry, Florida. The new 5 acre facility will give APE the largest and most efficient yard in the industry. Also on site is a huge 100,000 square foot building equipped with overhead cranes This large space will permit all weather servicing of APE equipment.
Part of the facility will be equipped for use in manufacturing APE power units and assembling APE vibros. This will be the first APE manufacturing facility in the eastern US and will greatly ease service and shipment to the Caribbean and South American markets.
The yard will be serviced by two cranes, a 150 ton Bucyrus Erie and a smaller American 5299.
The APE Southeast management and crew wish to thank all of the customers who have believed in us and made this progress possible. We look forward to servicing your requirements from the new facility and extend an open invitation to visit us anytime.
“Which exit?” South State Inc. and APE on New Jersey Turnpike Exit 7
“You’re from Jersey? Which exit?” goes the joke, referring to which exit a native New Jerseyan takes off the NJ Turnpike to get home. Superintendent Mark Timari of South State Inc. of Bridgeton NJ needed to drive 18″ pipe piles home for a bridge over the New Jersey Turnpike for the new Exit 7 Interchange. He did the right thing and called APE Northeast for an APE D30, and APE rose to the occasion, delivering a hammer ready to go to work. The D30 performed flawlessly throughout the project.
APE Northeast would like to thank South State for the business.
Please call APE NE for all your pile equipment needs at 888-217-7524.
Sheet, Sheets and more freaking sheets
APE was assigned the task of decorating the sea of cranes at the Port of Anchorage. This challenging task took courage and experience. There were environmental issues, huge tides, weather that varied from sunny and beautiful to snowing sideways, not to mention the 90’ to 120’ flimsy flat sheets that needed to be driven. This took the efforts of (4) APE Model 200-6 Vibratory Hammers.
Keeping it on the Low Down
When it comes to Low Head Room nobody knows it like APE.
APE engineered and developed the model 7.5 hydraulic hammer specifically for low head room applications, but because of the versatility of the 7.5 it is used in many different applications to drive many types of piles such as “H” beam pile, Timber pile, Concrete pile and Pipe pile.
Seen here in the lowest head room configuration, MCM drives 10” H-beam for a trestle on their project in Oakland, CA.
The 7.5 is only seven and a half feet tall making it the shortest hydraulic impact hammer in the world! It has been used across the country driving pile for retrofitting bridges and full length piles in many applications.
With the 7.5 on the job you can get your piles driven and keep your overhead on the lowdown!
